Što se događa kada razmišljanje postane previše razmišljanja?
Kada pokušavamo pronaći pravi odgovor, pravi pokret, pravi prijevod – i pritom se izgubimo negdje između svih mogućih opcija?
U predstavi “Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders” Martina Tomić nastavlja istraživanje prakse prevođenja, ovaj put kroz fenomen overthinkanja – pretjeranog, prekomjernog razmišljanja. Istraživanje započinje prijevodom samog pojma i potragom za njegovim najprikladnijim ekvivalentom u hrvatskom jeziku, a zatim se nastavlja potragom za njegovim pokretom. Proces neprestano upada u zamku overthinkanja – i pokušava iz nje izaći.
Polazišna točka je Hamlet, jedan od najpoznatijih fikcionalnih overthinkera, čime se nastavljaju prijevodi Shakespeareova teksta započeti u predstavi “il sonetto”. No, kako istraživanje napreduje, Hamlet se postupno povlači u pozadinu, a prostor preuzimaju vlastita prekomišljanja – osobna i profesionalna, svakodnevna i umjetnička.
Što je overthinking kada ga promatramo kao blokadu, a što kada ga počnemo doživljavati kao supermoć? Kroz formu izvedbenog predavanja, predstava otvara prostor za (popularno)znanstveni pogled na fenomen overthinkanja, ali i za autorefleksiju te poetiziranje prekomjernog razmišljanja kroz pokret.
Jer možda nije problem u tome što previše razmišljamo.
Možda je pitanje što sve možemo napraviti s tim viškom misli.

Predstava “Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders” je na mini turneji te će biti izvedena u četvrtak, 20. kolovoza u Zadru u sklopu festivala Monoplay (21 sat), potom u utorak, 25. kolovoza u Art radionici Lazareti u Dubrovniku (21 sat) te potom u srijedu, 26. kolovoza na Maloj sceni Doma mladih u Splitu (20 sati).

O MARTINI TOMIĆ
Martina Tomić je plesačica, koreografkinja i plesna pedagoginja te suosnivačica studija Tras i umjetničke organizacije Genijator, u kojoj djeluje kao autorica, plesačica i producentica.
Magistrirala je novinarstvo i završila preddiplomski studij suvremenog plesa, nastavnički smjer, na Akademiji dramske umjetnosti u Zagrebu. Završila je edukaciju za učiteljicu joge te tri DNS modula u Prague Schoolu, a obje discipline prakticira i podučava.
Od 2018. do 2020. bila je predsjednica Udruge plesnih umjetnika Hrvatske (UPUH).
Dobitnica je nagrade strukovnih udruga UPUH i PULS za najbolju ukupnu izvedbu (2019. i 2024.), kao i nagrade strukovnih udruga za najbolju koreografiju (2025.).
Od 2024. godine umjetnička je voditeljica Studija za suvremeni ples.

What happens when thinking turns into too much thinking?
When we try to find the right answer, the right movement, the right translation – and end up getting lost somewhere between all the possible options?
In the performance “don’t carry the world upon your shoulders”, Martina Tomić continues its exploration of the practice of translation, this time through the phenomenon of overthinking – excessive, excessive thinking. The research begins with translating the term itself and searching for its most appropriate equivalent in Croatian, and then continues with the search for its movement. The process constantly falls into the trap of overthinking – and attempts to find its way out.
The starting point is Hamlet, one of the most famous fictional overthinkers, continuing the exploration of Shakespearean texts begun in the performance “il sonetto”. However, as the research progresses, Hamlet gradually recedes into the background, making space for our own overthinking – personal and professional, everyday and artistic.
What is overthinking when we see it as paralysis, and what happens when we begin to see it as a superpower?
Taking the form of a performance lecture, the work opens up a space for a (popular)scientific approach to the phenomenon of overthinking, as well as a space for self-reflection and for poetically exploring overthinking through movement.
Because perhaps the problem is not that we think too much.
Perhaps the question is what we can do with all those extra thoughts.

The performance will be presented on Thursday, August 20 in Zadar as part of the Monoplay Festival (9 PM), followed by a performance on Tuesday, August 25 at Art Workshop Lazareti in Dubrovnik (9 PM), and then on Wednesday, August 26 at Mala scena, Dom mladih in Split (8 PM).

ABOUT MARTINA TOMIĆ
Martina Tomić is a dancer, choreographer and dance educator, and a co-founder of Tras studio and the Genijator art organization, where she works as an author, dancer and producer.
She holds an MA in Journalism and a BA in Contemporary Dance (teaching strand) from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. She completed a yoga teacher training program and three DNS modules at the Prague School, and she practices and teaches both disciplines.
From 2018 to 2020, she served as president of the Association of Dance Artists of Croatia (UPUH).
Martina is the recipient of the UPUH and PULS professional associations’ award for Best Overall Performance (2019 and 2024), as well as the professional associations’ Award for Best Choreography (2025).
Since 2024, she has been the Artistic Director of the Contemporary Dance Studio (Studio za suvremeni ples).
