LITTLE SCHOOL OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE – Second Semester 2026
In autumn 2026, Tiramola Dance Association continues its Little School of Contemporary Dance programme, offering a range of workshops, performances, film screenings and other activities for children, young people and adults.
The programme is structured around several strands that introduce contemporary dance to a diverse range of audiences. Workshops and performances are open to everyone, while the Creative Pulse programme is designed for students from partner schools.
A special part of the programme is Contemporary Dance Weekend, organised in collaboration with Naturščik Arts Organisation and MOT Dance Studio. It introduces Split audiences to the diverse forms and practices of the contemporary dance scene.
As part of Merge in Motion – Workshops for Adults, Ana Jelušić will lead a Feldenkrais Method workshop titled “A Gentle Perspective on Walking.”
Starting from the everyday experience of walking, the workshop explores how the body organises itself through movement, with a particular focus on the thoracic spine, rib cage, shoulders and pelvis. Through verbally guided explorations and partner work, participants will investigate skeletal connectivity, their relationship with the breath, and the possibilities that emerge when walking becomes a more conscious and freer movement.
For our youngest participants, the Kids Corner programme features a workshop led by Ilijana Lončar, titled “Be Creative, Be Yourself,” for children aged 8–12.
The workshop offers a space to explore individual physical abilities, technical precision and emotional freedom. Through structured improvisation, exploring different movement patterns and collaboratively creating choreography, children will develop their imagination, creativity and ability to express themselves through movement, while also learning to listen to and observe one another.
Special emphasis will be placed on overcoming the fear of improvisation and encouraging each child to discover their own individual ways of moving.
As part of Kids Corner, Ana Jelušić will also lead a workshop for children titled “Children Are Seaweed Too.” Inspired by the imaginary world of seaweed, the workshop invites children to explore movement, breath, sound and imagination.
Drawing on the Feldenkrais Method, the workshop playfully and intuitively connects imagination and movement, sensation, emotion and thought, incorporating drawing, viewing visual materials and creating sounds. Through play, participants will explore their own experiences and connect them with the shared experience of the group, while also learning a little about ecology and the importance of the sea.
As part of the Muzej(j) plesa programme, Fronesis Arts Organisation will present the performance “Steps,” which explores the relationship between humans, nature and contemporary lifestyles through movement.
The performance contrasts inner peace and a sense of connection with nature with the fast pace, alienation and loneliness of modern life, despite the constant connectivity offered by technology and social media.
The Creative Pulse programme features workshops and performances developed in collaboration with partner schools. Fronesis Arts Organisation will visit Bol Primary School with its performance “Dance Democracy,” an interactive work in which the audience directly influences the course of the performance through voting.
The audience’s choices are brought onto the stage, giving spectators an active role in shaping the performance. The work also raises questions about collective and individual choice, the relationship between the majority and the individual, and the connections between technology, democracy and privacy.
The Little School of Contemporary Dance will culminate in Contemporary Dance Weekend, taking place at Dom mladih in collaboration with Naturščik Arts Organisation and MOT Dance Studio.
The idea behind the event grew out of a desire to introduce Split audiences to the diversity of the contemporary dance scene and create opportunities to connect with artists, performers and a variety of artistic formats.
The programme will include the premiere of “How to Stop Time” (working title), a performance by Tiramola Dance Association choreographed by Aleksandra Janeva Imfeld, as well as a film programme and a panel discussion accompanying the film “Tala Za/Jedno.”
Visitors can also look forward to Marin Lemić’s “Body Communication” workshop, the guest performance “0.0002 Hectares” by Laura Vojnović, and Sunčica Bandić’s children’s performance “ORI: A Folding Performance.”
The film programme will feature Marin Lemić’s “BI-POLAR B(E)AR/E” and Dora Kokolj’s “2020.” The programme will also include SPLIT TASK – An Evening of Dance Miniatures by Emerging Choreographers, along with a presentation of Sunčica Bandić’s handbook “Plesna početnica” (A Beginner’s Guide to Dance).
The full programme and schedule for Contemporary Dance Weekend will be announced at a later date.
Through its ongoing programme, the Little School of Contemporary Dance creates opportunities to discover contemporary dance, develop creativity and explore movement, while bringing audiences into contact with artists and current trends in the contemporary dance scene.
