“Your Time Is Up” is a contemporary dance performance whose main backbone is an unhappy love story placed within a 45-minute time frame, in which the dancers present a conversation between a patient and her psychotherapist. The story is divided into nine scenes and is structured so that the scenes are not shown in chronological order, but rather as they are presented through the patient’s stream of consciousness. Her narrative is broken into short fragments from which meaning must be sought, as in the sentence: “It is impossible to break easily; porcelain is almost impossible to put back together.” Each fragment can also stand alone as an individual story or problem, creating the impression that the story is being told by several patients in group psychotherapy. In this way, the problems of one patient become universal, familiar, and close to the audience. Diagnoses—whether imagined, imposed, or real—are there to be discussed until the psychotherapist says: “Your time is up.”
